Josiah Turns 3!!

Monday was a big day in the Rogers household. Our little man turned 3.

So after swimming lessons we drove to Chapin to celebrate the BIG birthday with Oma and all the Thompson cousins. As you can tell from the pictures, he had a wonderful time.

Matthew had a special present for Josiah when we got there. He wrapped it and everything.

Here he is opening another Thompson's present. I HUGE Toy Story activity book. He LOVES IT:)

All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten

Most of what I really need

To know about how to live

And what to do and how to be

I learned in kindergarten.

Wisdom was not at the top

Of the graduate school mountain,

But there in the sand pile at Sunday school.

These are the things I learned:

Share everything.

Play fair.

Don't hit people.

Put things back where you found them.

Clean up your own mess.

Don't take things that aren't yours.

Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.

Wash your hands before you eat.

Flush.

Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.

Live a balanced life -

Learn some and think some

And draw and paint and sing and dance

And play and work everyday some.

Take a nap every afternoon.

When you go out into the world,

Watch out for traffic,

Hold hands and stick together.

Be aware of wonder.

Today Jesse had a special program at school for all the parents to see what they have done this past year. One thing they did was read a poem they wrote themselves and even typed out on the computer. I was am SO impressed. Here is a picture of him in front of the smart board with a microphone reading one of his poems. Its called "Ran Bos" (Rainbows). I thought he did awesome:) Below are the pictures of all the poems he wrote. I think he is pretty talented!!

After all the kids read their poem's they got to come see Ms Jane. She had been coming to their class every Friday to read to them. And she gave them a special Award to put on the cover of their Poem book.

Mrs. Walsh read a book called "The Skunks On The Bus",  they all were a certain animal. As you can see (or not) Jesse was the skunk!!!

And then Mrs. Walsh & Mrs. Joyner gave out awards to all the kids. Jesse got the

"Mr. Goodbar Award" for  being a good friend!!!

And finally, I wanted to share one more thing that happened this year in Kindergarten!! A couple of weeks ago, I received a message from Mrs. Walsh asking if I could call her back and talk to Jesse because he had a little incident with his scissors in math. I called her back and found out that he had decided to cut some holes in his shirt. I asked him why he did it and he said "I didn't know I wasn't allowed to do that". Well, I guess we have to pretty specific with certain things around here. He first told me it was an accident. I told him I could see how maybe one hole would be an accident but 10!!! I don't think so!!!

I don't think he will do it again. But hey, he is pretty good at cutting:)

Revenge on the Wasps!!!

Going in for the kill!

Many of you have read the post about Josiah getting stung by a wasp a few weeks ago at church. Even though it has been a few weeks since this happened, he still talks about it. And let me tell you, it has effected him. He is now scared of anything small flying by his face, especially those pesky house flies that come out to play during this time of year. This past Sunday we were driving home from church and I asked him what he had learned about at church. He told me that they went to play at the playground but that Mrs. Frances got all the wasps:) YES, Mrs. Frances and Mr. Jim are Josiah's hero's now. And they are mine too:) The day after the big "sting" they went in for the kill (as you can tell from the pictures). I just want to say "THANK YOU" to the both of them for loving the little ones at church-especially mine:) And taking care of those pesky wasps for us. THANK YOU!!!

A Fight With A Wasp!!

Yesterday was  Sunday, so that means church. And since it was the 3rd Sunday of the month I had to work in the nursery during the service. While everyone was trying to get the kids ready to go home, Josiah's teacher comes in and tells me that his class was outside on the playground and he was playing inside the big pirate ship we have. While he was there, he evidently got stung by a wasp-TWICE!! Once on the cheek and once on his hand. He looked so sad:( He was crying and just wanted to stay with me. On the girls I was working with in the nurser, her mom is a nurse. So she went and got her. We put some after-bite stuff on the bites and he seemed to be doing fine. His eye did swell up a little bit. But not too bad. We stopped by CVS on the way home and got him some children's Benadryl and he seemed to be fine for the rest of the day. Then this morning he woke up and I think his eye was about doubled in size!!! Poor kid:( He looked like he had been in a fight. But I don't think it his hurting him. Thank Goodness!  I guess I'll give him some more Benadryl today and keep an "EYE" on it!

My Pink Stamper Color Challenge!

So, My Pink Stamper is having a color challenge today and I decided to join it. This is my first challenge EVER and thought it would be fun to join in. Especially since I have been making some cards the past couple of days. The challenge was to use 3 colors- Green, Yellow and Brown. You can make whatever you want just use those colors. So...this is what I came up with!

Mother's Day 2010

When I woke up on Sunday I got out of bed getting ready for church (you know how it is on Sunday morning with 4 kids- you get up and get it done or you will be late). But Terry immediately told me to get back into bed so he could get the kids and they could give me their mother's Day present(s). Josiah came running in yelling "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, MOMMY". And he had a box in his hand. So after everyone piled onto our bed (luckily Nellie was outside) I got to open my card-which they all signed and colored:) and my present. They got me this necklace with four children on it and their bellies are their birthstones. It is so beautiful. I love it. I love being a mom to my four beautiful kids. I am so blessed. God has really given me 4 beautiful children:)

After church we had "Fried Chicken Sunday" for lunch and then after lunch Terry and the kids went to go pick up mom from her house so we could celebrate mother's day at our house and I could make dinner. We had a good time and I think she did too. The kids were excited to see Oma at our house and I am sure it was nice for mom to get out of the house too. After dinner, we all went and sat outside and had ice cream. It was very nice. The kids got to enjoy some ice cream and run around while the grown ups got to talk. Tony and Marlene came over for a few minutes too and got to see mom and hang out. It was very nice and relaxing. It was a nice mothers day!

"Sweet As Dough" Recipe

Yesterday afternoon I decided to pull out my FAVORITE Sweet Dough Bun recipe and make it for either dinner or breakfast (it all depended on if I got it done before dinner-and I didn't). I love making this recipe mainly because it has yeast in it and I love working with yeast. I love making bread, I just don't seem to have enough time. I wonder why??? Anyway, here are some pictures of my experiment.

Mix the dough for 5 minutes. The recipe said to do it

by hand but I used my handy-dandy Kitchen Aide.

This is what the dough looks like after about 2 hours of rising.

Can I tell you, I LOVE the smell of yeasty breads:)

Spread the mixture.

Lay them on a "well buttered" pan and let them rise again!

WOW, they look good!! Cooling down for a few minutes so we can indulge!!

Here is a copy of the recipe.

Sweet Dough Bun Recipe:

Before starting, heat 2 cups of milk (Hotter then luke warm) and add

3tbs of yeast. Set aside for 5 minutes.

Mix together 1/2 cup of sugar; 2 tsp. of salt; 2 eggs; 1/2 cup of soft shortening and 3 cups of flour. Mix well and then add the milk/yeast mixture. Beat well. Then add another 4 1/2 cups of flour. Knead on counter until smooth and elastic - about 5 minutes (I used my kitchen aide with the dough hook).

Place the dough in a large greased bowl (I used olive oil) and cover, till dough is doubled in size. Punch down and let the dough rise again. Roll out dough for cinnamon mixture.

Mixture for Cinnamon Buns:

1 cup of soft margarine

11/2 cups brown sugar

3 Tbs. of cinnamon

Spread on and roll up. Cut into 3/4 to 1" slices. Lay on a well buttered pan; Sprinkle with brown sugar (which I forgot). Let rise.

Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes and ENJOY!!!
